Larry was working in his garden when the comet exploded twenty-three thousand, nine-hundred eighty nine feet and six inches overhead.
The comet, more precisely an extinct shard cast off from c/2011 W3 (Lovejoy) in early 2011, was twenty-three point seven meters in diameter at the point of it's sudden explosion. It had been traveling steadily at a velocity of two-hundred and sixty three thousand, four hundred eleven miles per hour. When it intersected with the dayside of the Earth the combined velocity was a noteworthy three-hundred thirty two thousand, seven-hundred and seventy one miles an hour at the time of impact.
